Even though I can’t really enjoy it all year round, kayaking is the most enjoyable exercise.
I get to go out and chill on the water, feel the warmth of the sun, listen to the birds and other animals nearby, see the fish underneath the surface of the water, take my time tooting about. Oh, so relaxing.
Especially if I can manage to go during the day in the middle of the week – there’s no one out on the water because they’re all working – BEST TIME TO GO!
All my troubles literally melt away.
So much fun, I don’t even consider it exercise.
Every other year, our friends will have a camping trip and we’ll do a day long float down the river in our kayaks. It’s a lot of fun. The last time we went, I got to see a bunch of different birds – bald eagles, gold finches, turkey vultures, the works!
The gold finches stood out the most because we were floating along and I was explaining to one of our friends how the female birds have dull colors to help protect them from predators, while the male birds are the more colorful ones which helps them attract mates. Right at that moment, two gold finches sat right next to the bank we were floating by, as if to be like, “See how pretty we are? She’s a female and I’m a male.”
We have great conversations without all weight of the world distracting us. No phones, kids are at grandma and grandpas, just us and the beauty before us.
I can’t wait for summer.
