Change is always hard, but staying the same is harder. Life is difficult no matter what you do, so you might as well choose what you want your “hard” to be.
I could sit here and think about all the things I’d like to change about myself, but I won’t. It took me a long time to rewire my brain into not thinking that way and I refuse to go back to that.
Instead, I’m going to do something even more difficult: list things that I like about myself:
-The way my hands seem to fly across the keyboard as I type. I remember learning how to type in middle school; writing the same sentence over and over to see how many words per minute we could type. (The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.) I was always jealous of the kids who were fast at typing.
-I like the way my mind works when I have that “lightbulb” moment. I immediately grab a pen and paper and write down my thoughts, then reorganize them later so they make sense.
-I like the way I write, physically, on paper. I tend to write fast, and in cursive, so when I get a good, heavy pen in my hands, it’s like my thoughts flow freely from my mind. The heaviness of the pen forces my hand to slow down a bit so my penmanship is a bit neater.
-I like how I am persistent in anything I do. I may not understand at first but I tend to learn more through my failures than I do through my successes.
-I like that I am becoming better at harnessing my energy, using it to propel my goals, instead of giving it away to those who take advantage.
-I like that I am more forgiving of myself when I make a mistake.
-I like that I allow myself to feel my emotions when they first appear, regardless of where I am.
-Most of all, I like that I know I’ll never give up. I might take a break, but I’ll never give up.

What are your thoughts on the matter?
